socks and ditziness

As I was driving to uni today, my top felt weird. Like all bunchy around my arm pit (gross, arm pits). I just assumed I hadn’t pulled it on properly and it was all caught up, so with one hand, I tried to adjust it as I was driving but to no avail. Half an hour or so later, I couldn’t stand it any longer so balancing the steering wheel with my knees, I used both hands to straighten myself up … and pulled out a sock. There was a sock in my top. A sock. In my top. This particular top never needs ironing, just gets folded straight from the clean washing and put away, so I guess the sock was stuck inside. Now at least the other sock has its mate back.

My lecturer called me ditzy last week. I’d forgotten to do a section of an assignment and when I told her and said that I’d have it to her by the end of the day, she just looked at me. Then she said, “You’ve been a bit ditzy this semester, haven’t you?” I’ve been called a lot of things before but never ditzy. She is completely right though, this semester has been a clusterfuck of ditziness.

I’ve been missing classes and lectures (accidentally and intentionally), handing assignments in two days passed their due dates, not reading the texts, and feeling completely and totally overwhelmed. End of semester isn’t far away at all but it really can’t come soon enough. I need to rein in my mind, I don’t know where it is – still in Vietnam? Running around in a field of yellow daises, in total denial about how much work we’ve still got to do? – but it’s sure as hell not been on the job.

Though my existential crisis wasn’t resolved by the expected time (24 April at 2.04pm), I think it has, for the most part, passed without causing too much damage. I still don’t really know what my purpose is – does anyone? – but I came to the conclusion that as long as I keep questioning life every now and then, that means I’m open to change and growth and that can’t be a bad thing. I’m happy with that for now.

Other than feeling like uni is trying to eat me alive, life has been good. I’ve been feeling way more social than usual. I finally caught up with my high school best friend who I haven’t seen for over a year, despite living less than a ten minute drive away. We laughed so much that when I coughed at work the next day, my stomach hurt with the intensity of a thousand sit-ups. Always a good sign of a fun night.

What have you guys been up to? I’ve missed you.
